Loughborough University won ASHRAE design competition for the second time in a row
ASHRAE announced the student design competition winners on 3rd August 2020. Master's students Alekhya Yalamanchili, Amr Suliman, Jacob George, and Mohamad Abdul Gaffoor Seyad from Low Energy Building Services Engineering, School of Architecture Building, and Civil Engineering, Loughborough University won first place in the Integrated Sustainable Building Design category.
They were set a brief to design a sustainable and low energy Library building in Mumbai, India. The team used BIM, IES energy model, and renewable energy solutions to design a net positive energy building. As a result of achieving first place, the team members will receive $2000 and one representative will be invited on an all-expenses-paid trip to the ASHRAE winter conference 2021 which takes place in Chicago, Illinois in January. This is the second time in a row that Loughborough University won the ASHRAE Design competition, they won the same competition last year. They were mentored by PhD students Vijay Srikandarajah, Joshua Vasudevan, and Dr. Mahroo Eftekhari, Course Director and Reader in Building Services Engineering.
