An Introduction to Digital Twin for the Built Environment

Digital twins are an essential tool in addressing the current climate crisis, presenting opportunities to achieve zero carbon targets and promote sustainable, healthier buildings and communities. In the built environment, a live digital twin of a physical building responds and behaves like their real-world counterpart, and it connects groups of buildings together with energy and transport systems. They can provide the intelligent modeling, analytical and simulation capabilities needed and give decision-support information essential to improving performance, influence future building design, and reduce risk.

This webinar will present IES’ digital twin technology and how it can be used:

-  to support the entire lifecycle of the built environment from planning and design through to commissioning and operation.

-  To help with scenario planning where there is no experience to fall back on

-  as the enabler for decarbonization of the built environment and how they can be used in net-zero planning

-  to improve the operational performance of the built environment

About the speaker

David’s knowledge and background in developing low-carbon building energy strategies through the use of detailed building physics modeling are strengthened by his passion for sustainability, which he uses to play his part in tackling global climate change. As a chartered engineer and accredited low carbon energy assessor with over fourteen years of experience, he has a great understanding of energy and carbon emissions associated with the built environment, and more importantly, where improvements can be made during the design, construction, and operation of buildings.

David’s industry experience is supported by his qualifications, which include an MSc in Sustainable Energy Technology and a BEng(Hons) in Building Services Engineering. As the Partner Operations Manager for the Intelligent Communities Lifecycle at IES, David is responsible for providing practical advice and coordinating technical support to enable partners to utilize the suite of digital twin tools in their businesses.
