There are no up-coming events
UK Midlands was the first ASHRAE group formed in the UK. In 2017 we were inaugurated as a Chapter. Members based in midlands region are automatically enrolled. We welcome all members in the UK to join us.
At ASHRAE UK Midlands Chapter, we are dedicated to stepping up our efforts in addressing this issue. Support is by no means an easy feat, but through cooperation and community empowerment we believe we can facilitate progress in this area. We are always striving to make a difference, and invite you to learn more and lend your support.
There are many ways to get involved! You can join in the conversation by connecting with us on social media, meet your fellow member at the events, share your expertise by giving talks and technical tours, and contribute your time and skill by becoming a board member.
To serve humanity by advancing the arts and sciences of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration and their allied fields.
All our works and activities are carried out by volunteers. In order to extend the impact and reach more people of this industry, we need all the support you can provide. Financial sponsorship for general activities of the Chapter or single events are much welcome.
A healthy and sustainable built environment for all.
President 2021-22
ASHRAE UK Midlands
ASHRAE UK Midlands Chapter was established in 2017 and represents a Society established in 1894 with now 58,000 members, 15 regions and 198 Chapters across the globe. As 2021-2022 Chapter President, I would like start by acknowledging and thanking all former past and present executive board members of the Midlands Chapter, Chairs and Committee Members who have established the grass roots and foundations of a successful Chapter in the UK, and one with a culture of diversity, inclusiveness, collaboration, and ideas. I would also like to thank our sponsors that make it possible for the Chapter to support research, host events for its members, and support the next generation of engineers that represent the future. The Society’s 2021-22 theme from our Society President Mick Schwedler is of “Personal Growth. Global Impact. Feed the Roots”. The COVID-19 global pandemic has affected lives across the globe, it has also served as a paradigm shift to demonstrate the fragility of our global community to such events. Yet, in the face of such adversity the global community has come together to innovate a way through to beat the virus and mitigate its spread. It is through such collaboration and the efforts of the global community, in all walks of life, that has made this possible- including those efforts of volunteers. Pandemics are not the only challenge to global fragility and resilience. Global warming remains one of the greatest challenges to our planet, and therefore our ability to innovate new ways on a mission to reach Net Zero Carbon by 2050 also requires collaboration within sectors of Industry and community. The ASHRAE society members, volunteers and sponsors all contribute towards this mission. With extensive research, technical committees, government affairs, innovation, and developing standards which are adopted worldwide, bring us closer to achieving a healthy and sustainable environment for all. We welcome you to join our growing Chapter of members and volunteers, whether a Student in Industry at grass roots, an experienced Contractor, or long serving Practicing Engineer, come share your ideas, network, and expand your personal and professional development. We welcome new members to join our board of governors (BOG), whether in a formal or informal capacity. It is only through consistent collaboration and sharing ideas do great things happen. If you are interested in contributing or sharing ideas to assist with ASHRAE’s mission and vision, then please get in touch.

Schwedler previously served on the ASHRAE Board of Directors as president-elect, treasurer, vice president and director-at-large. “We each are involved in ASHRAE for different reasons and volunteer in our chosen ways. We do it because we grow – professionally and personally – and help others do the same. We do it because that global impact serves the world’s, as well as our personal, future generations. All this occurs because we our true to our deep, widespread and strong technical roots, grassroots and personal roots.” In addition to his time served on the Board of Directors, Schwedler served as chair of the ASHRAE Technology Council, chair of ASHRAE Standing Standard Project Committee 90.1-2010, chair of the Advanced Energy Design Guide Steering Committee, and as an ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer. He is Past President of the La Crosse Area ASHRAE Chapter and has held ASHRAE Society-level roles on many standing committees, technical committees, and presidential ad hoc committees. Schwedler’s theme focuses the impact of connections to foster personal and professional growth and how ASHRAE’s historical and present-day structure continues to lead to the development of future industry professionals that impact the world. “How did you get here today and become part of this expansive root system? Who helped you grow, encouraged you - that is, who ‘fed your roots?’ Collectively, our personal growth and united efforts have produced global impacts … to serve humanity…the first three words of ASHRAE’s mission.” He also stresses the importance and responsibility each of has as he asks, “Whose roots will you feed in the next three months?”
